It's a cute little critter. It's also a TERRIFYING KILLING MACHINE. You've been warned.
Yesssssss that's my bird, baby, I'm so glad everyone can learn about this extraordinarily gnarly little guy!! Although, if you get excited like I do, and you want to send your friends pictures of northern shrikes impaling snakes and birds and mice and anything else they damn well please, maybe put a spoiler on the image, or send it with a message more descriptive than "look how cool this is!" I have learned this lesson the hard way.
Aww! Cute! Terrifying! We see these guys in the winter here in MN (imaging picking MN as a winter retreat, absolutely a maniac choice, supports evidence for psycho killer status) and the Loggerheads in summer for nesting.
Also the inspiration for one of the best sci-fi monsters of all time (from Dan Simmons' Hyperion books)
