This does beg the question: Why did ICE arrest this guy, in Vermont? The final bit of the piece addressed performing these kinds of detentions/arrests in places like Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, et al, where odds are the judges are more inclined to a Trumpian perspective makes a brutal type of sense. So, why Vermont? Why risk it? Hubris? Boredom? Mahdawi just was on the next row in the spreadsheet? A trial balloon? Is the answer "Yes" to all of these?
I mean are they allowed to detain someone, put em in s plane to louisiana and then arrest them when it lands? honest question. if not they kinda just have to arrest him where they’re at, right?
I dunno. I think they are making it up on the fly, and then justifying/rationalizing it when they get back to the office. Which is why that Garcia guy is still sitting in the gang Supermax in El Salvador.
It sure reminds me of something I learned at Dachau Concentration Camp: There is a no-man's land of about 5-10 meters around the inside of the walls of the camp - if you step into that area, you will be immediately shot. It is also an offense to not have your cap on. To fuck with prisoners, the guards would take the cap off of a prisoner, toss it into the no-man's land, and force them to go get the cap. Yux ensue. I thought about this when reports came out of immigrants, green card holders, other residents going to a CPB office for their routine check-in or interview for citizenship and being immediately arrested for...reasons?
