hmmm i haven't been watching videos much yet because i sorta know how to ollie, just need to get better at doing it while moving. my advice is to do it on a flat surface/ while holding a fence or something to steady yourself and make it less scary to just do the foot movement without feeling like you're going to slide off the board and bash your head in

Gotcha. Thanks! I had one wipeout and have been a wuss since. I'll try and gather some courage.

David Sirota's newsletter this morning shouted out this new movement #NotHimUS (https://www.nothimus.org/). Their "strategic maxims" are really well written and KIND OF give me a hit of optimism for defeating neoliberalism, which, yes, is ultimately aiding and abetting the conservative movement

The GOP and Democrats literally represent the same constituents. Gay Marriage in the teens, GND and M4A now, Marijuana then and now, Gun Control forever, there's like 80% + support among democratic voters and independents, but wait wait wait, hold on here. Almost 40% of Republicans are against it!

Which is shitty, fine. Structural reasons including the massive amounts of violence they (they being the Democrats, see NYC, Portland, LA, Pittsburgh, etc. etc.) are prepared to unleash on anyone who challenges them from the left means there's not much we can do about it.

What drives me nuts is the broke-brained lunatics who go around evangelizing whatever the status quo is, because the alternative is to admit they have no power and representation. Among a million examples, I had to be physically carried out of a bar by my friends when, right after Stoneman Douglas I was talking about the need for gun control and some smug lib fuck who was not part of our group leans in to criticise me because 'It will never pass the Senate'.

These miserable bitches won't even allow people to express outrage at the murder of children. Because they know the Democrats won't do shit about it, so in a choice between the Democratic Party and child murder, they go out of their way to tut-tut the anti-child-murder side as somehow detached from 'reality'.

“Almost 40% of Republicans are against it!“

I had a conversation with a bunch of friends about some Gallup Polls. I won’t bore you with the details but basically there was a great point that the way they frame the narrative creates a feedback loop of ineptitude and cowardice. They could’ve easily said “60% support it” and Cecil McConnell would literally have nothing to stand on!

Also I’m sorry about that smug lib fuck. What an asshole!

Oh I was being sarcastic. Usually that stuff has 60% or more good support. But the response is always geared towards the shut-in crank who will show up to yell at their town hall because that's their only outlet where people have to listen to them talk for two minutes.

Yea. Just the very idea. The arrogance that were like, all around some war room table figuring electoral strategy, and simultaneously the bootlicking groveling to never imagine anything you haven't been given permission to from Nancy pelosi. And the presumption to police the outrage of strangers in a bar.

I shoulda poured his beer into his lap. Woulda made my point and can't be classed as assault.

60% or more gop support. Autocorrect just turned insists on turning gop to good or hope, which is all the proof you need that all tech bros are nazis.

I figured it was sarcastic. I guess I was venting out into the internet ether of how frustrating it all is. I feel we’re on the page.

As they say “scratch a libertarian tech bro, a Nazi bleeds.”

The diseased brain it takes to assume voters will link this to 'defund the police'! People don't think like that! People barely read the news, why would they make a connection like that?!

Expand full comment

Also it's correct and moral to defund the police! A sizeable percent of their voters are for it! And more would be if they spent half as much time and money explaining and promoting the idea as they did caricaturing and demonizing it.

It's insane how *leaders* act like they have no choice but to weathervane at the barest wisp of hypothetical disapproval, and how people with the biggest soapbox in the nation act like there's nothing they can do to shape the debate and define its terms.

in fact, most weed legalization measures use the money to fund more police

And this is why you need to vote blue no...matter...who.....fuck.

What a joke of a party and system that makes them valid.

"It would be a huge step, yes, but in the context of current popular opinion and political capital, one that actually fits into the Democrats’ hesitant push for “a slightly better future, eventually, if everyone’s ok with that over at Exxon.”

I get the no guts no glory aspect but the biggest threat to the election is 4 more years of the orange man. People in favor of legalizing marijuana are likely to be voting for Biden anyway. Another big threat is all the young people who traditionally are too apolitical to vote, who, if they did, would mainly vote for Biden. I'm not sure, however, that the prospect of legalizing marijuana would get them to the polls. It would, however, be utter folly to alienate independent and moderate voters and Republicans who want to jump ship, but are too scared that Joe might turn (heaven forbid!) radical left. Get them on board first. Otherwise, we might be faced with losing, even if we have the popular vote. And the bid to regain the Senate could suffer too.

To borrow a line from a band back in the day “Fear is your only god.”

That’s the mantra that sums up the Democrats and their supporters. Fear blinds you of things that should be fucking obvious. For example: running a Democrat who’s PRO-TRUMP and every liberal thinks this is some awesome move without a hint of irony.

If anything at least they’re living up to the #BlueMAGA title bestowed upon them.

Also I hope you succeed on your craft Jack! Can’t wait for two years from now when you release an early Spike Jonze style skater video, complete with late 90s editing and early Green Day as the soundtrack

They're both afraid of voting on the MORE act because there might be blowback from people who will never vote for them.

They're scared of investigating, or even speaking out against, the Fed is buying corporate bonds above PAR because some of their donors might be unhappy. (https://twitter.com/RealBankReform/status/1304124140916543488).

They really are scared of everyone.

Legalizing pot is on the ballot in my state. The election info packet the state sends out has the text of the proposal, neutral analysis of it, then arguments from various politicians and citizens. There's 5 pages of arguments in favor of it. There's over 40 pages of arguments against it (mostly consisting of "but think about the children!"), including some by prominent democrats. It was a little disgusting to see.
