Of course Chris Pratt, at his Chris Pratt-iest, would take the 'high road' of not going full Italian accent.
Honestly, now I'm just furious that we were denied an Austin Powers-esque casting job of Jack Black voicing Bowser and Mario.
If Luigi does the index-and-pinky point I'll consider the franchise saved. Until then...
I don't disagree with the premise of Chris Pratt being a coward but I will die on the hill of Mario having an Italian accent not being canon. Mario and Luigi are goombas from Brooklyn! They have Brooklyn accents! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q20ovbTOroE&list=PLyUkLo8OvFU6pPVTZUHob6pP3FY-wUSlq
I am also Italian-American (Calabria and Puglia. My great-great uncle cut heroin for the mob and was called Georgy the Hook. My great-grandfather was delivered ice). I wasn’t happy about Pratt because he doesn’t have the range. I would have preferred a paisan or someone who could do a Brooklyn accent.
Bob Hoskins was great in the live action film. I thought his approach worked well for a character who is essentially a blank canvas for gamers.
