You know, for the longest time I always had a hard time understanding rightwing cranks that accused those of us who were against the Iraq war of being anti-American when we were just anti-war.
After watching this whole asinine spectacle roll out, I finally understand the meaning of the phrase "If you hate America so much, then get out." I…

After watching this whole asinine spectacle roll out, I finally understand the meaning of the phrase "If you hate America so much, then get out." If you really hate genocide so much, why aren't you marching in the streets against the Chinese government's systematic genocide of the minority Uighur population? Why aren't you marching against the Turkish dictator Erdogan's repeated denials of the Armenian genocide? And why aren't you marching against the rich Quatari Nazis that fund Hamas in its attempted genocide against Israeli Jews? Are you going to rename a hall after Amina al-Hassouni, the seven-year-old Arab Bedouin girl who was severely injured by shrapnel caused by the Iranian drone strike against Israel landing in her family home. No, of course you won't because it doesn't fit your anti-colonial narrative.
Congratulations, your generation managed to turn an anti-Iraq War leftist like me into becoming one of those cranks who says "If you hate America so much, then get out."
First of all, whataboutism has entered the chat. Congratulations on that one. Secondly, if this didn't do it something else was going to. If people protesting against an actual, well-documented genocide is what gets you to "America--love it or leave it" you were always going to end up there and were just waiting for the right excuse. You used to not understand the rightwing cranks, now you're on your way to becoming one.
Well for one, we're not currently giving China billions in both money and weapons to perpetuate and support what they are doing to Uighurs. Student protests have a long history, the amount of hand wringing on this and the overly harsh police response is completely hysterical
"How dare these consarned rabble-rousing students protest a genocide happening right now in real time instead of a genocide that happened nearly a century ago! Or another one that doesn't benefit from weapons bought and paid for with their tax dollars! Or other incoherent nonsense that I think they should be concerned with instead!"
"Why, I've almost had to grab for the smelling salts! Harumph!"
