The Frank Lorenzo of publishing. OK, a Frank Lorenzo of publishing. I doubt he’s the only one. His Wikipedia bio makes it sound a bit like his real focus was ad revenue (maybe ad revenue and union busting). Perhaps content was just something he thought of as the bait required for ad revenue. Maybe he’ll pop up and answer for himself.

As portrayed here (and in the !w bio), he comes off as a market fundamentalist. Annoyingly, you can’t really shame a market fundamentalist ‘cuz they just see everything through money-colored glasses. Everything else is invisible. They’re already achieved the mental state that Betsy DeVos has in mind for us all.

My last full-time media job—the funders stopped paying us and then fell off the face of the earth. We were in an office in midtown. I kept running shoes there because I liked going for runs on the hudson after work. The funders, apparently, had also not paid our rent for weeks and the (communal) office manager threw my shoes out in retaliation which felt like a fitting final indignity ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gawker Media ultimately did foster a legacy of excellent journalism that was destroyed that by Peter Thiel's ego, scorn, and vengeance.

I did like the crossover, felt like it added a lot of new and interesting stuff that I might not have come across otherwise

-This is in no way a suggestion that Great Hill was in some way acting like a rapacious private equity firm.
