Another interesting point that was not really discussed in the article is the ethnic-centrism and racism prevalent in Japan. I know ethnic Koreans have a hard time in society and in schools getting bullied as well.

Thank you for mentioning this. It sounds like people in Japan are focusing blame on cyber-bullying, and not on racism.

I loved Terrace House. I think there is a lot of issues to be addressed before blamed is placed. I would be very disappointed if Hanna mother settles for any monetary stimulus. To me that is hypocrisy

Thanks for writing this. I hadn't previously seen any mention of the racism Hana had been dealing with before, which is strange because that was undoubtedly a big toll on her and her mental health. I think a lot of people in the West like to view Japan as utopia-adjacent and fundamentally "different" than us (which has it's own racist implications), when that isn't true at all. Especially in the context of Terrace House, I think we need to talk more about the racism faced by mixed and/or dark-skinned members. Its fucked up and it needs to be fully acknowledged.

Thank you for this article, it's so well researched, I have read nothing alike on this topic! I couldn't believe that Terrace House deleted all of the season's pictures off of Instagram. Even if it was out of respect, it has the aftertaste of denying their role in Hana's death.
