Agreed with all of this, and it doesn't even delve into the American tendency to collapse all Asian people into a single group. There is little reason for a Chinese-American to feel represented by a Filipino-American or a Thai-American to feel represented by an Indian-American. All of those different national origins have different stories and American experiences and referring to them all as generically Asian elides all of that. It's another thing that the majority-white media establishment needs to stop doing, but like most things, the problem goes much deeper than that.
