"Hutchinson — who, let us not forget, diligently worked in in the Trump White House until this point"

This needs to be repeated over and over. She's in pictures happily laughing with some of The Worst Trump-Adjacent People, so she wasn't, y'know, uncomfortable. Also, she was an aide to Ted Cruz, so she has experience working with the Absolute Worst of Humanity. Whether or not her testimony leads to criminal charges against Trump or his associates . . .

<waits for hysterical laughter to die down>

she's probably just doing what everyone else who exited that cesspool did, which is launder her reputation to the point that she starts getting invited to parties and job interviews again (once the death threats die down).

I mean, yes, I do have sympathy for a 25 year old woman going against the apparatus that employed her and is now probably going to result in her having to go into some form of witness protection, but I'd be shocked if she isn't already eyeing a position in the DeSantis campaign.

Tim Murphy over at Mother Jones probably put it better:

"But perhaps we should be a bit more particular about applying the “hero” tag to anyone who spent that much time in Trump’s orbit, whether it’s a staffer, a vice president, or a member of the cabinet. Hutchinson signed up to help an aspiring autocrat wield power—she didn’t go undercover. It wasn’t exactly a mystery that Donald Trump was a vindictive goon who encouraged acts of violence among his supporters and treated everyone in his orbit like trash. Those were known knowns long before January 6th. They were known knowns long before November 8th, 2016 too. Lots of people were very clear about this. And she stuck with it over the course of a slow-motion coup that was quite easy to see happening from the outside. It was apparently even easier to see that happening from the inside. Providing an honest account of those days is the minimum threshold of accountability the public is owed after all this."

Not better, just differently. Both excellent reminders to not apply the word ‘hero’ to this woman who is doing the bare minimum now that she was called on the carpet. If she really put country over party or position she would have spoken up a long time ago.

Her actions after this will tell whether her testimony marks the beginning of character change or was merely the launching point to work for another fascist wannabe (DeSantis perhaps?). Time will tell.

One of the things that made trump’s White House amusing was that, unlike most pols who only have like 1-2 grifters floating in their orbit, with trump it was just grifters all the way down. So any time there was any heat it was all just rats fleeing a sinking ship with everyone happily stabbing their former coworkers’ in the back.

They are all an excellent case study in negative human behavior aren’t they?

1000%. One of the weirdest and most fascinating sociological experiments that’s ever been run, to the massive detriment of our entire nation (and the world) 😂

We'll probably find out tomorrow that she has a "tell-all" book coming out and this is media publicity for it.
